Democratic candidate drops out of Senate race

Associated Press – August 28, 2010

DOTHAN, Ala. (AP) – Democrat Jennifer Reeder Adams has dropped out of what had been a three-candidate race for a south Alabama state Senate seat.

Adams’ decision to drop out of the race, leaves incumbent Sen. Harri Anne Smith of Slocumb, running as an independent, and Republican George Flowers of Dothan as the only candidates in the race.

Smith qualified to run as an independent after the Republican Party disqualified her because she supported Democratic Congressman Bobby Bright in the 2008 election.

Adams said she dropped out of the race partly because she believes “Smith is the person we need in the Statehouse.”
